Good to know
- Mounting this handrail to a wood newel or a wall? Use our S-9600 Rail Bolt Kit to make that connection.
- Ships as one solid piece in the length you order (bending rail ships as one long piece with its layers together). May arrive slightly over length, so plan to trim. Lengths over 8 ft ship by freight with a long-length fee that free shipping doesn't cover.
This House of Forgings 6010 bendable handrail is 14 feet long for curved staircase or balcony installations. It follows industry-standard profiles and ships via heavy freight.
Key specs:
- Material: Wood construction with 7-10 vertical slices for flexibility; available in multiple species.
- Dimensions: 14 FT length; standard 6010-B profile (2-1/4″ wide by 2-3/8″ high for graspability when bent).
- Code compliance: Meets International Residential Code (IRC) standards for graspable handrail profiles in residential stairs.
- Design: Bendable profile for curves; unfinished and ready to stain, free of knots and defects.
Usage Tips: Although ready to stain, inspect for handling marks or smudges and lightly sand with 220-grit or finer paper, then wipe clean with a tack cloth before applying stain to ensure even absorption.
Construction: Handrail construction includes joints and layered sections with grains oriented against each other to counteract natural bending tendencies. Wood typically warps in one direction, so this method, common across the industry, minimizes potential issues. In addition, many species aren’t available in long single pieces and the only method to construct the handrail is with multiple layers. Also note that wood is an organic product with natural variances in shade or texture, which are inherent features rather than defects. We install and stain these same products daily with no issues.
Availability and lead times:
- Red oak: Stocked and ready for immediate shipping.
- All other species (custom options): Made to order in an Amish woodmill with 2-3 weeks production time plus shipping; no returns or exchanges on customs.
Shipping: This can only ship heavy freight due to the length. Anything over 8 ft can not ship ground. Contact us for more info.

Homer Olsen –
This 14ft bending stock is great. If you’re doing it yourself, just remember patience is key when gluing and clamping a piece this long.
Eliza Weiss –
We actually used a shorter bending rail from here for another small curve, and this 14-foot piece for our main stairs was just as high quality.
Forrest Zimmerman –
our staircase had a fairly long curve, but 16 feet would have been too much. This 14-foot bending rail in Red Oak was the perfect length to get the job done with minimal waste.
