This House of Forgings 6084 modern wood handrail in red oak is designed for use with cable rail systems or modern/contemporary stair systems, meeting code requirements and pairing well with 4000 series newel posts. Available in lengths from 4 FT to 20 FT; may arrive with up to 1 inch extra length for on-site trimming.

Handrail Construction – This product is a multi-layer product with a top layer and one or two bottom layers. This alternating grain pattern construction helps prevent warping. See additional photos.

  • Joints: Our construction consists of finger joints on the top layer with finger joints on the side. Joints are typically every 4 to 6 feet.

Usage Tips: Although ready to stain, inspect for handling marks or smudges and lightly sand with 220-grit or finer paper, then wipe clean with a tack cloth before applying stain to ensure even absorption.

Construction: Handrail construction includes joints and layered sections with grains oriented against each other to counteract natural bending tendencies. Wood typically warps in one direction, so this method, common across the industry, minimizes potential issues. In addition, many species aren’t available in long single pieces and the only method to construct the handrail is with multiple layers. Also note that wood is an organic product with natural variances in shade or texture, which are inherent features rather than defects. We install and stain these same products daily with no issues.
