This flush newel post anchoring system offers a strong, professional installation for your round or square solid wood newel posts. Designed for use in staircase installation, this system is installed on wood floors or wood stair treads.
The anchoring system features a concealed installation design, creating a clean and finished look without visible hardware. With this streamlined installation process, no special tools, trim, or plugs are required.
Installation Instructions:
- Step 1 – Cut newel or post to desired length. Locate center on base of the newel. Set router to 13/16″ depth and remove remaining materials inside hole saw cut. Insert one of the discs and mark screw locations. Pilot drill and secure with 6, 3-1/2″ x #10 galvanized deck screws.
- Step 2 – Establish location for mounting the newel. Mark center and drill a 3/4″ diameter x 1/4″ deep locater hole. Using the stud to center the disc mark the screw locations. Pilot drill and secure with 6, 3-1/2″ x #10 galvanized deck screws. Be sure the screws go into the floor joists or added blocking that will accept the full length of the screws to provide suitable support for the application.
- Step 3 – Thread the newel onto the stud mounted on the floor(starting step or balcony cap). Rotate clockwise until tight and positioned properly. The use of a strap wrench or similar tool may be necessary.
