6010 Straight Wooden Handrail – 12 FT Long

This House of Forgings 6010 straight handrail is 12 feet long for staircase installations. It follows industry-standard profiles and ships via heavy freight.

Key specs:

• Material: Wood construction with layered joints and opposing grain directions to prevent warping; available in multiple species.
• Dimensions: 12 FT length; standard 6010 profile (2-1/4″ wide by 2-3/8″ high for graspability).
• Code compliance: Meets International Residential Code (IRC) standards for graspable handrail profiles in residential stairs.
• Design: Straight profile; unfinished and ready to stain, free of knots and defects.
• Joints: Our construction consists of butt joints on the top layer with finger joints on the side. Joints are typically every 4 to 6 feet.

Usage Tips: Although ready to stain, inspect for handling marks or smudges and lightly sand with 220-grit or finer paper, then wipe clean with a tack cloth before applying stain to ensure even absorption.

Construction: Handrail construction includes joints and layered sections with grains oriented against each other to counteract natural bending tendencies. Wood typically warps in one direction, so this method, common across the industry, minimizes potential issues. In addition, many species aren’t available in long single pieces and the only method to construct the handrail is with multiple layers. Also note that wood is an organic product with natural variances in shade or texture, which are inherent features rather than defects. We install and stain these same products daily with no issues.

Availability and lead times:

• Red oak & White Oak: Stocked and ready for immediate shipping.
• All other species (custom options): Made to order in an Amish woodmill with 2-3 weeks production time plus shipping; no returns or exchanges on customs.

Shipping: This can only ship heavy freight due to the length. Anything over 8 ft can not ship ground. Contact us for more info.
