Classic wood newel posts feature elegant turned profiles made on a lathe from solid wood. The process creates the rounded shapes, beads, and coves that define traditional staircase design. These posts are the main structural anchors for a traditional balustrade.
Two main types are available:
- Post-to-Post newels — flat top where the handrail terminates
- Pin-Top newels — dowel on top that accepts a handrail fitting for a continuous over-the-post system
