Adhesives, brackets and hardware
The right adhesive makes for a strong, quiet installation. Wood glue joins wood parts with a strong bond and a seamless look. Epoxy secures iron balusters and other components for a durable, lasting connection. Handrail brackets give wall rails secure support and a sturdy grip, and our stair hardware and rosettes cover the structural fasteners and finishing details for a complete job.
Finishing and installation kits
Our touch-up paint and putty match our Satin Black finish for clean repairs of scratches and scuffs. Trim and moulding hide gaps and add a finished look. Our iron newel post installation kits supply the hardware for a solid attachment to the subfloor.
What do I need for my project?
Iron baluster install: epoxy, base shoes and touch-up paint.
Wood handrail install: wood glue, stair hardware and rosettes, plus wall brackets for any wall rail.

What glue should I use on stair treads to stop squeaks?
Honestly, glue won’t fix a squeak you already have. You can’t get it down into the joint where the wood is rubbing, so the tread keeps moving and keeps squeaking. You have to lock the tread down. From above, drive a few trim-head screws through the tread into the stringer. If you can get under the stairs, glue wood blocks tight against the underside of the tread and screw them in place. Glue is for new installs: put it down when you set the tread and you’ll stop squeaks before they start.
What epoxy do I use to install iron balusters?
Use our EPC-410 epoxy tubes with our EPC-112 epoxy dispenser. One tube installs about 20 balusters, using a dime-sized drop of epoxy at the top and bottom of each one. For iron newel posts, use our epoxy can instead, one can per newel.
Will your touch-up paint match my iron balusters?
Only if they’re House of Forgings brand Satin Black. Our other finishes are too unique for a touch-up pen to match. For major damage on other finishes, hire a painting contractor who can blend the touch-up as closely as possible.
How far apart should handrail brackets be?
Space them about every 3 feet, with 4 feet as the maximum. Always mount brackets into a wall stud or solid backing, never into drywall alone.
What is a rosette on a staircase?
A rosette is a round or square plate that goes where your handrail ends at a wall. It covers the joint and gives the rail a clean, finished look, and it gives the handrail or a handrail bracket a solid spot to mount into the wall. We carry rosettes in both wood and iron, so you can match your handrail or your balusters.
