Blank S4S wood balusters are a clean, versatile option for many staircase styles. “S4S” means Surfaced Four Sides—each baluster is milled square and smooth on all faces with crisp 90-degree corners and consistent dimensions. The simple profile works well for Craftsman and Mission styles, and also fits contemporary or minimalist designs.

Available in two standard sizes: 1-1/4" and 1-3/4" square, at a standard 41" height. These balusters are made for plowed handrail and shoe rail installations, where the square ends sit in a routed channel for a clean fit.

Made from solid wood, sanded, and unfinished so you can paint or stain to match your newels and handrail. We stock both sizes in multiple species for quick delivery on remodels and new builds.
