Overall review – Cheap Stair Parts is great. Communication on email about order, delivery, etc is good. Didn’t have any problems with my order so no commentary on customer service. Parts are shipped with each individual piece bubble wrapped.
Some advice in completing this DIY project in changing out wood to metal balusters…
1.,Use a large branch lopper instead of a saw to cut your old wooden balusters out. Less noise and sawdust.
2.,Order at least 1 extra of each design. Shipping on 60+ 4 or 5 extra balusters isn’t bad. Shipping on two to replace two you cut too short is ridiculously expensive.
3.,Measure each baluster before cutting. Even though they look the same length, they aren’t. And a ¼” difference will annoy your spouse.
4.,Start with the longest ones first. If you cut one too short, you can move it to a shorter spot. The length of your cut should be the distance between the top and bottom railings plus the depth of the hole in the top railing + a little extra. If it’s too long to fit, cut a small slice off. Goal is to have these be as long as possible to slide in without scratching the wood of the railing as you slide it in.
5.,If the holes in the bottom railing are deep – the tapered part at the top will show. I used a wooden dowel and cut spacers to slide into the bottom railing to make the hole shallower.
6.,If your holes in the railings are large in diameter, no amount of epoxy will get them to be sturdy/straight. I used rubber plumbing O rings to slip over the iron balusters to secure tighter in the holes of the railings.

Once I figured out my pattern, installation went pretty well. Problems working on carpeted stairs. Made it work. Final turns on handrails do not fit the angled top pieces. Was able to custom cut the top ones but angle was too steep for bottoms.

I ordered single basket, double basket, and twist hollow iron balusters to make a pattern for our new stair case along with the shoes with set screw. Our builder installed them with no issues using a little epoxy top and bottom and it came out great! I shopped around for iron balusters and Cheap Stair Parts was by far the most affordable with the lowest prices for a great product. The shipping was a little pricey coming from TX to CT and assuming it’s also based on weight, but the overall cost was STILL cheaper than ordering from Home Depot or Lowe’s! Very satisfied with the purchase.
